DFID Introducing: The Plant Doctors (When Dennis met JASMIN)

British scientists have come up with innovative ways to pre-emt diseases and pests that devastate 40% of crops worldwide. At the heart of it is JASMIN, a supercomputer at RAL (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) run by STFC (Science and Technology Facilities Council).
JASMIN analyses data and transmits it through the satellite directly to plant doctors who in turn advise farmers in advance to take appropriate action and avoid loss of crops.

Dennis Flaherty, our allotment secretary had the privilege in taking part in the promotion of this amazing technology.
