Caring for Birds in Winter

Now that it’s turned chilly, it’s even more important to give your garden birds food and water.  If they don’t eat, they don’t survive the cold nights.  And they need water for bathing, to keep their feathers in good condition to get them through the night.

So please, think of your garden birds while you’re indoors, nice & warm.  You don’t need a fancy bird bath – a large plant pot saucer is equally good or an old roasting tin – not to deep sided, as they need to be able to keep an eye open for predators.  And check it in every morning – it may need melting and it’s amazing how much water gets distributed over the patio by a bathing blackbird!
