Sunday June 28th sees the stage at The Trading Hut set with rows of trestle tables crossed with wooden dividers marking the territories of the 63 classes in this year’s centenary Summer Show. Classes form continents of flowers, fruit, vegetables, culinary delights, photographs and children’s art, their borders open with easy on the day entry for both members and non-members.
The actors, the plants, domestic delights, revelatory images and children’s ingenuity simply ask that you bring them to the stage between 9.30am. and 11.45am. vases, bowls, plates provided.
A wealth of experience then pauses at the trestles in the form of our judges Mr and Mrs Coe, their able assistants with pens and stickers recording decisions.
Free and open to the public from 2.00 pm, it’s an opportunity to share and strengthen an experience that has changed little in 100 years, the cakes made by the catering team a delicious additional inducement.
The past takes care of the present. Lord Burlington, whose family were generous enablers to Chiswick horticulture, has cast aside his diary to open the show and Alyson Sich, whose family took part in the first Chiswick Flower Show, will present the prizes at 3.30pm.
The show closes with a lively auction, a chance to buy most of the exhibits and savour their flavour.
Please accept this invitation to be an actor, and wander through the 2015 summer show classes for a role for your soul, soil, ingredients, images, your tools. Send your entry form, and any questions, to Michael & John on shows@growchiswick.org.
We hope to see a bumper cast on the 28th.
