The water has been turned on on the Promenade, Chertsey Road and the Burial Ground, as I suspect happens in many years, this has revealed a number of leaks and other problems with tap and standpipes.
On the Promenade there is a leak under one of the standpipes which will probably mean it will have to be dug out, obviously the water will have to be turned off for this to happen.
I met with the council on the site and they are working on a solution, this means although this is the north end of the two sites the water will be off to both ends until it’s fixed.
Problems have also been reported on Chertsey Road – at the first standpipe on the left as you go in and on the Burial Ground a faulty tap by plot 24 has also been reported.
Other than that it’s all going swimmingly! Except for the very antisocial behaviour of some plot holders who think it’s acceptable to dump rubbish on vacant plots – it’s not, it’s lazy and selfish.
The vast majority of us get along fine with our neighbours, we may exchange a few polite words on sit down for a socially distance cup of tea. I suspect that most of us don’t care that much if the person on the next plot doesn’t want to be our best friend but we do care a lot, and it impinges on the pleasure of our allotment time, if they are thoughtless, selfish and export there rubbish onto our plot or common ground – it’s actually in the rules all allotmenteers sign Section 9.8, but it is just a common courtesy to respect others.
Not just rubbish on vacant plots, a guy on Dukes Meadows was telling me Wednesday that twice this week he has removed two black bags of rubbish from his plot. At least he removed them from the site each time and didn’t dump them elsewhere.
