On Saturday the 23th June we are hosting a visit by 6 experts from the Royal Horticultural Society. Three are experts in the field of fruit trees/bushes and three in the area of vegetables.
The object of the visit is for them to impart their expertise in their fields to allotment tenants.
It is anticipated that we would start the day at the Trading Hut with an introduction and Q&A session on any of the above subjects. We would then split into three groups and actually visit your plots and discuss any problems or queries you may have.
Each pair will visit Plots in Staveley Road, Burial Ground and Dukes Meadows Allotments.
We have a representative from the sites that will accompany them and we are hoping you will take advantage of this visit and perhaps show them your plot to discuss your particular problem. Unfortunately, logistics do not permit us to go to Chertsey Road, Promenade or Thames Road sites but I am sure you would benefit from looking at other allotments and talking about common problems be it with the soil, why some crops are doing better than others etc.
I am sure you will agree that talking to someone about your horticulture problems who knows what they talking about, beats reading about it in books or looking it up online.
It is proposed that we start at 10.00 with the Q&A and then go to the allotments, finishing at about 12.30.
So are you up for it? Would you be willing for your plot to be visited? Or do you just want to come along and hopefully pick up some valuable advice that money can’t buy.
Numbers have to be limited to around 40, so if you just want to come or better still put your plot up for a visit would you let me know by the 10th June. We don’t want to be embarrassed by a lack of interest from our members so after that date if there are not enough takers we will extend an invitation to our colleagues at Acton and Kew Horticulture Societies.
So hit reply now and say yes please, giving your name, site and plot number.
Alternatively I shall be at the Trading Hut on Saturday 2nd June 2018 – 1000 – 1200 – and you can let me know then.
IT’S FREE!!! and you might learn something
