Quiz Night Seeds of Disunity – John Gill

Last Saturday some 9 teams competed at the CHAS Annual Quiz Night.
“Where was the first canal in England constructed” ? “did the first winning Ukrainian Eurovision singer have a city renamed after her? “does a pear sink or float ? ” These were some of the devilish questions member Mervyn Jupe kindly put before us. The innovation of a seed round amused the green fingered ,some of whom managed not to confuse beetroot for chard. Particularly notable, however, one committee member was not foxed by any of the Latin descriptions of flora and fauna.
What stumped everyone, though, was the googley in the Connections round, ironically about left- handers. Nevertheless, although the table scores ranged considerably , and agreement about answers was rarely immediate, all participants seemed to enjoy the event.
