CHAS had a quiz night on Saturday, and it was, as ever, a hard fought but good humoured contest.
I tried to test everyone with questions on a wide range of topics – from UK citizenship to comedy and gardening, art to twentieth century history, prizes & awards and music. An impressively high level of art knowledge was on display and I am very pleased to report that everyone passed the UK citizenship test with flying colours.
The result was in doubt until the very final round, but coming out on top were Tichenor’s Terrors, comprising (in alphabetical order):
- Vivenne Cantor
- Sue & Henry Gewanter
- Jenny Jenks
- Noreen Jones
- Pamela Mayorcas
- Penny and Norman Morris
As well as a bottle of wine for each member of the winning team, there were tulip bulbs for the team which gallantly propped up the scorecard, accepted by Susan Britton on Veni Vidi Vici’s behalf.
Jenny Jenks won the raffle.
Thanks to everyone involved in making it happen:
- John for generally masterminding everything
- Alastair, Matthew & Jamie for setting up (and clearing),
- David and Sandy for ticket sales
- Dirk for manning the scoreboard (and being handy with a smartphone at critical moments), and
- Sue, Jenny & Penny for the catering
- Lots of people for helping with clearing up (especially Jill – all that washing up!)
- And of course to all the contestants.
The top photo shows most of the winning team and here is a slightly redacted version of the final scoreboard:
This blatant attempt at rewriting history might have been more convincing if the claimed score hadn’t amounted to 198% – even Hermione Granger would struggle to achieve that.
Here’s to the next one!
