CHAS Virtual Summer Show 2020
It happened, the Virtual Show became a reality, first to submit photo entries (roses) was Elaine Hughes, who would have expected that one of our most senior members would be first to enter into what may be the first ever virtual allotment and gardeners show? Neatly from senior to junior, the last entries came from Strand on The Green Nursery and Infants School with their “make you smile” colourful flower drawings. .
In between came entries not just from west London, but from California, Singapore, Wales, Bristol, Norfolk, Hampshire, Hove, Brighton, Isle of Wight and maybe Cyprus, Skye thinking that was where her aunt Tissie (highly commended for her gooseberries) now lived.
It was a joy to upload the photos, each batch a reassurance somewhat akin to a pigeon fancier watching his birds come home to roost, perhaps a metaphor too far given recent pigeon devastation on the allotments, but that’s how it felt. May the “joy vibe” be with you as you peruse the accompanying entrant’s photos.
It was a team effort, so rather than name any individuals, know that without the support of the Chiswick Horticultural and Allotments Society committee, this groundbreaking internet adventure would never have happened, so a big thank you to them.
Let’s break the rule and be a “name dropper”, Rula Lenska, who bowled us all over with her charm and wit when presenting the virtual certificates at a very real prize ceremony on Dukes Meadows Allotments. Witness the presentation on the website www.growchiswick.org as well as on Buzzfeed and you too can be bowled over.
